The EUR/USD pair is trading higher near 1.1395 during the early European session, gaining approximately 0.12% as the US Dollar (USD) retreats ahead of the release of the June US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report. The short-term recovery reflects a correction in the US Dollar Index (DXY) rather than a confirmed shift in the broader trend.

The Ellismis brokers explore the key aspects of this topic in detail throughout the article.

The DXY is trading around 101.17, down 0.10% on the day after advancing 0.30% in the previous session and reaching 101.33. The recent Dollar strength has been supported by higher US Treasury yields, increased risk aversion, and renewed concerns surrounding global energy markets.

Despite the intraday rebound, the technical structure of EUR/USD remains bearish. The pair continues to trade below key moving averages, while momentum indicators suggest that sellers maintain control. A sustained recovery above the 1.1438 resistance zone is required to weaken the current negative bias.

US Inflation Data and Fed Policy Expectations Drive Volatility

Market attention is focused on the upcoming US CPI report, which is expected to show further moderation in inflation pressures. The headline CPI inflation rate is forecast to slow to 3.8% year-over-year (YoY) from 4.2%, while core CPI is projected to remain steady near 2.9% YoY.

The inflation data will directly influence expectations regarding the future path of Federal Reserve monetary policy. A weaker-than-expected CPI reading could trigger a decline in US Treasury yields and reduce demand for the US Dollar, potentially allowing EUR/USD to extend its recovery toward higher resistance levels.

However, a stronger inflation print could reinforce expectations that interest rates will remain restrictive for longer. In this scenario, higher yields would likely support the Dollar Index (DXY) and increase pressure on EUR/USD, increasing the probability of a move toward the 1.1200 psychological support area.

Geopolitical Factors Continue to Support Dollar Demand

Recent developments involving maritime security and restrictions around the Strait of Hormuz have contributed to higher crude oil prices and stronger demand for defensive assets. Rising energy prices have pushed US Treasury yields higher, creating additional support for the US Dollar.

Higher yields increase the relative attractiveness of Dollar-denominated assets, limiting upside potential for the Euro. The combination of elevated yields, inflation uncertainty, and risk-sensitive market conditions continues to create a challenging environment for EUR/USD bulls.

EUR/USD Technical Analysis: Bearish Flag Breakdown Signals Weakness

The EUR/USD technical outlook remains negative as the pair trades below the 20-period Exponential Moving Average (EMA) at 1.1438. The failure to reclaim this dynamic resistance level confirms that the recent rebound remains corrective.

The pair has also completed a Bearish Flag breakdown, a continuation pattern that often signals further downside after a consolidation phase. The current price action suggests that sellers are waiting for opportunities to enter near resistance levels rather than chasing the downside immediately.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is positioned at 39.7, remaining below the neutral 50 threshold. Although the RSI has not reached oversold territory below 30, the indicator confirms persistent bearish momentum and indicates that additional downside movement remains possible.

Key Resistance Levels: 1.1411 and 1.1438 Cap Recovery Attempts

The first technical resistance zone for EUR/USD is located near 1.1411, corresponding to the previous channel floor. A move above this level would indicate improving short-term momentum but would not yet invalidate the broader bearish structure.

The next major barrier is located at the 20-period EMA near 1.1438. A daily close above this level would be required to reduce downside pressure and expose the pair toward the 1.1509 channel top.

Further upside resistance remains near the longer-term trend-line barrier at 1.1618. However, as long as the pair remains below these levels, sellers are likely to maintain control.

EUR/USD Downside Targets: 1.1300 and 1.1210 in Focus

On the downside, the immediate support level is located near the June low at 1.1325. A confirmed break below this zone would strengthen the bearish continuation pattern and open the path toward 1.1300.

A deeper decline would expose the 29 May 2025 low at 1.1210, which aligns closely with the key 1.1200 psychological level. This area represents the next major downside objective and could become a critical support zone if selling pressure accelerates.

The current technical setup favors a bearish continuation scenario, with EUR/USD vulnerable to further losses unless buyers reclaim the 1.1438 resistance level. Until then, rallies are likely to remain limited, with the market focused on a potential extension toward 1.1200.
