A native of France’s French Riviera, Garcia’s lifelong passion for movement took root early and propelled her across continents. After earning her place at the prestigious Ailey School in New York City, she quickly carved out a name for herself with performances at iconic venues such as Lincoln Center, Apollo Theater, Tel Aviv Opera, Music Center in LA and internationally through companies like Ballet Hispanico, Buglisi Dance Theatre, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.
But it was her inclusion in the celebrated illusionist dance company MOMIX that marked a transformative milestone. Selected after a rigorous, months-long audition process, Garcia now thrives within the boundary-defying troupe renowned for fusing athleticism, theatrical design, and poetic visual storytelling.
“MOMIX is not just dance — it’s magic through movement,” Garcia explains. “Learning to become one with the props, improvising with intention, and contributing creatively to the final choreography has completely redefined my approach as a performer.”
Garcia’s debut with MOMIX came during the company’s milestone 40th Anniversary performance at Connecticut’s Warner Theatre — a launchpad into a worldwide tour including stops in Italy, France, and beyond. Her role in the company’s acclaimed interpretation of Alice, inspired by Lewis Carroll’s surreal world, has positioned her as one of the most versatile and compelling French talents in international contemporary dance. Her role in “Back to Momix” leveled her up to an internationally acclaimed soloist that was invited to perform “Aqua Flora” at the Joyce Theatre Gala in New York and the Taobuk Festival in Taormina.
While the pandemic momentarily disrupted Garcia’s rapid trajectory, it didn’t halt her momentum. She channeled her creativity into virtual collaborations and video productions — but the return to live performance was unforgettable.
“The first time I stepped back onto a stage after lockdown, I was overwhelmed with emotions,” Garcia shares. “There’s nothing like the exchange of energy between a dancer and a live audience.”
That spirit now fuels a full calendar of performances across North America and Europe, including a highly anticipated appearance at Folies Bergere in Paris — a proud homecoming as the only French dancer in MOMIX’s cast.
Beyond MOMIX, Garcia continues to push boundaries with collaborations alongside OCA Dance, Faustine Lavie Dance Project, and esteemed interdisciplinary artist Reza Farkhondeh.
Equally ambitious is Garcia’s long-awaited original dance work, Humans, an introspective piece conceived during the pandemic and now nearing development. It represents her boldest artistic leap yet — a synthesis of technique, philosophy, and emotion designed to reconnect humanity through movement.
“I’ve grown so much by working with the world’s most visionary artists,” Garcia reflects. “Now I’m ready to create something that brings all those experiences into a singular expression.”
With her sights set firmly on international stages and her creative horizons ever-expanding, Aurélie Garcia stands as a symbol of resilience, evolution, and artistry — a rising force in contemporary dance whose impact is only just beginning to unfold.
